How to chat with your family about a chore

Every chore has its own chat, so your family can share updates, ask questions and cheer each other on.

Open a chore's chat

  1. Tap a chore on the Home tab, or open it from the Chores tab.
  2. Tap the yellow chat bubble at the top of the screen.

A number on the chat bubble shows how many messages you haven't read. Opening the chat marks them as read.

Messages are sent from the profile selected on your phone. If no profile is selected, select one first by tapping the name at the top of the Home tab.

Send a message

  1. Type in Type a message...
  2. Tap send.

Sending messages needs premium. Without premium, you can read the chat, and you see Upgrade to send messages.

Copy, edit or delete a message

  1. Press and hold a message.
  2. Choose:
    • Copy message to copy any message.
    • Edit message to change one of your own messages.
    • Delete message to remove one of your own messages.

You can only edit or delete messages sent from your profile. A deleted message cannot be restored.

Who gets notified

When you send a message, every phone in your home gets a notification, except phones where your own profile is selected. The notification shows who sent it, the chore and the message.

To get notifications, your family members need to be signed in to your home on their own phones, with notifications allowed.

Troubleshooting

  • "Upgrade to send messages" Sending messages is part of premium. Members you invite share your home's premium, so they don't need their own subscription.
  • I tapped the chat bubble and nothing happened. Select a profile at the top of the Home tab first.
  • My family didn't get a notification. Check that they are signed in to your home on their phone, that notifications for Chore Boss are allowed, and that their own profile is selected in the app.

See What's free and what's premium in Chore Boss.
