How to use the Chore Boss Assistant

The Assistant answers questions about your family's chores and rewards, and can make changes for you when you ask.

Open the Assistant

  1. Tap the round Assistant button in the bottom-right corner. It shows on the Home, Chores, Progress and Rewards tabs and on chore screens.
  2. Type your question, or tap one of the suggestions.

When you open it from a chore screen, it knows which chore you are looking at.

What you can ask

  • What is due today or tomorrow, and what is overdue.
  • What was completed this week, and by whom.
  • Whose turn it is on rotating chores.
  • How much everyone has earned, and their balances or points.
  • Tips for getting kids to do chores, from our guides.
  • How to do something in Chore Boss, from our help articles.

You can also tell it about a problem or an idea, and it passes it on to the Chore Boss team.

Changes it can make for you

On a parent profile, you can ask it to:

  • Add, change or delete chores.
  • Add, rename or delete rooms, areas and custom tasks.
  • Add or update family members.
  • Add, change or delete custom rewards.
  • Mark tasks done for someone.
  • Remove chores from the overdue list.
  • Adjust a balance, pay out a balance, or redeem a custom reward.

Before anything changes, a card shows exactly what it will do. Nothing is saved until you tap Confirm. Tap Cancel to leave everything as it is.

Rewards, payouts and the overdue list can only be changed from a Household Manager profile. The free plan's limits still apply, so the Assistant cannot add more chores than your plan allows or add premium-only items on the free plan.

On a kid's profile

On a profile with Limit Access, the Assistant can:

  • Answer questions about their chores, points and earnings.
  • Mark their own tasks done.

It cannot change chores, rewards or settings, and a kid cannot mark tasks done for someone else. Kids only see the Assistant button when your home has premium.

Check its work

The Assistant can get things wrong. After it makes a change, look at the chore or balance in the app to make sure it is what you wanted. If a chore needs a photo, the Assistant can tick the tasks, but the chore only counts once the photo is added in the app.

What you need

  • Chatting about your own household needs you to be signed in and to have premium.
  • Without premium, the Assistant shows a sample conversation so you can see what it does. Tap Upgrade to chat about your household to unlock it.
  • There is a daily limit on messages.

Use your voice

Tap the microphone to Dictate your message instead of typing. The first time, allow microphone and speech recognition access when your phone asks.

Copy or share a reply

Press and hold a reply to copy it or share it.

Delete a chat

  1. Open the Assistant.
  2. Tap the trash icon at the top.
  3. Confirm Delete this chat?

This permanently clears this profile's conversation with the Assistant. Each profile has its own conversation.

Your data

  • The Assistant looks up your home's chores, rewards and members to answer you.
  • Your messages are sent to an AI service to write each reply.
  • Your conversation is saved with your account until you delete it.

Hide the Assistant button

  1. Tap the Settings tab.
  2. Tap App Settings.
  3. Turn off Floating Assistant Button.

Turn it back on in the same place.

Troubleshooting

  • "You've reached today's chat limit. Please try again tomorrow." You've used today's messages. You can still read your conversation.
  • "Something went wrong. Please try again." Check your internet connection and send your message again.
  • "Nothing was changed. Please try again." The change was not saved. Ask again, then check the result in the app.
  • "Your change was saved, but I couldn't finish replying." The change went through. Check it in the app.
  • "To dictate messages, allow microphone and speech recognition access in your device settings." Open your phone's settings for Chore Boss and allow both.
  • I can't see the Assistant button. Check that Floating Assistant Button is on in App Settings. On a kid's profile, the button only shows when your home has premium.
