How to add a Fever Whiz widget and use Siri
Add Fever Whiz's Next-dose window widget to your Home Screen to see when the suggested window opens and start logging. On an iPhone, you can also ask Siri.
See when the next-dose window opens without opening Fever Whiz, and start logging a dose or a temperature from your Home Screen. On an iPhone, you can also ask Siri. The window is a suggestion based on the interval saved for each medication, not medical advice. Always follow the label and your pediatrician's advice.
What you need
- Fever Whiz Premium for the widget and Siri. The shortcuts on the app icon are free.
- On an iPhone, iOS 18 or later.
- Open Fever Whiz once after you update it, so the widget and Siri know your family.
Add the widget on an iPhone
- Touch and hold an empty spot on your Home Screen until the apps jiggle.
- Tap Edit, then Add Widget.
- Search for Fever Whiz and tap Next-dose window.
- Swipe to pick a size, then tap Add Widget.
The small widget shows the medication whose window opens next and a Dose button. The medium widget shows up to three people, or, once you choose one person, up to three of their medications with Dose and Temperature buttons.
To add it to your Lock Screen, touch and hold the Lock Screen, tap Customize, then Lock Screen, tap the widget area and choose Fever Whiz.
Add the widget on Android
- Touch and hold an empty spot on your home screen.
- Tap Widgets.
- Find Fever Whiz and touch and hold Next-dose window.
- Drag it where you want it.
Stretch it wider to see up to three people, or, once you choose one person, up to three of their medications with Dose and Temperature buttons.
Choose who the widget shows
The widget shows Everyone until you choose: the person whose window opens soonest, or up to three people on a wider widget.
- iPhone: touch and hold the widget, tap Edit Widget, then tap Family member and choose who to show.
- Android: touch and hold the widget and open its settings (on some phones, the pencil icon). On Android 11 and earlier, you choose when you add the widget.
What the widget shows
- The time left until the suggested next-dose window opens.
- Next-dose window open once it has opened, and Open since with the time it opened.
- No next-dose window right now when no medication is counting down.
- Updated and a time: the last time your phone received everyone's entries. A dose another caregiver logged may take a little while to appear; open Fever Whiz to update it.
Tap Dose to open the dose form with the medication and its last amount filled in. Check it and tap Save: the widget never logs anything by itself. Tap Temperature to open the temperature form, or tap a name to open that person in Fever Whiz. When the widget shows everyone, tap the + next to a name to open that person's dose form.
Ask Siri (iPhone)
Say:
- "Log a dose in Fever Whiz" or "Log a dose for Mia in Fever Whiz".
- "When is the next dose in Fever Whiz" or "Next dose for Mia in Fever Whiz".
To log a dose, Siri asks who it's for and which medication, if there is more than one. Siri offers the medications given in the last 30 days, with the amount you gave last time. Before it logs anything, Siri reads the dose back, for example "Log Children's Tylenol 5 mL for Mia now?", with the time of the last dose and, if it hasn't opened yet, when the suggested next-dose window opens. Say yes to log it, or no to cancel. If your iPhone is locked, Siri asks you to unlock it before it logs the dose, so nobody else can log one from your phone. To log a different amount, say no and log it in Fever Whiz.
The dose syncs to everyone caring for your child, like a dose logged in the app.
You can also run these from the Shortcuts app: tap All Shortcuts and look under Starter Shortcuts, where Fever Whiz's shortcuts are listed.
Shortcuts on the app icon
Touch and hold the Fever Whiz icon to see Log a dose for and Log a temperature for with a name, for the people who had a dose most recently. Tap one to open the form for that person. These are free, on iPhone and Android.
Troubleshooting
- The widget says "Open Fever Whiz once to set up this widget": open Fever Whiz, then go back to your Home Screen.
- The widget says "Next-dose windows on your Home Screen are part of Fever Whiz Premium": tap Unlock to see your options.
- Siri says "Open Fever Whiz once to set up Siri.": open Fever Whiz, then ask Siri again.
- Siri says "Siri shortcuts are part of Fever Whiz Premium.": the widget and Siri are part of Fever Whiz Premium.
- Siri says "Still saving the dose. Open Fever Whiz to check it.": open Fever Whiz; it finishes saving the dose, so don't log it again.
- Siri doesn't offer a medication: Siri only offers medications given in the last 30 days. Log the first dose in Fever Whiz.
- A dose from another caregiver isn't on the widget yet: open Fever Whiz, and the widget updates.
- On Android, the widget shows "Opens around" and a time instead of a countdown: Fever Whiz needs the alarms permission to count down on your home screen. Open your phone's Settings, tap Apps, then Fever Whiz, and turn on Alarms & reminders. The name of this setting can differ from phone to phone.
