How to use Chore Boss widgets and Siri
Add a Chore Boss widget to your Home Screen and tap a chore's circle to tick it off. On iPhone, ask Siri what's left or to mark a chore done. Both need Premium.
See today's chores without opening Chore Boss, and tick a chore off right from your Home Screen. On an iPhone, you can also ask Siri what's left, or tell Siri a chore is done.
What you need
- Chore Boss Premium for the widgets and Siri. The shortcuts on the app icon are free.
- On an iPhone, iOS 18 or later.
- Open Chore Boss once after you update it, so the widgets and Siri know your family.
The widgets
- Today's Chores: one person's chores for today, with a circle to tick each one off. The small size shows the next chore and how many are left.
- My Progress: a ring that fills as today's chores get done, with the streak and the balance. On an iPhone, you can also put it on your Lock Screen.
- Family Today: everyone who has chores today, with how many they've done, their streak and their balance.
Add a widget on an iPhone
- Touch and hold an empty spot on your Home Screen until the apps jiggle.
- Tap Edit, then Add Widget.
- Search for Chore Boss and pick a widget.
- Swipe to pick a size, then tap Add Widget.
To add My Progress to your Lock Screen, touch and hold the Lock Screen, tap Customize, then Lock Screen, tap the widget area and choose Chore Boss.
Add a widget on Android
- Touch and hold an empty spot on your home screen.
- Tap Widgets.
- Find Chore Boss and touch and hold the widget you want.
- Drag it where you want it.
Stretch Today's Chores to see more of the day.
Choose whose chores a widget shows
Today's Chores and My Progress show the profile selected in Chore Boss on this phone until you choose someone else.
- iPhone: touch and hold the widget, tap Edit Widget, then tap Profile and choose who to show.
- Android: touch and hold the widget and open its settings (on some phones, the pencil icon). On Android 11 and earlier, you choose when you add the widget.
On a kid's phone, or when a kid's profile is selected, the widgets only show that kid.
Tick off a chore from the widget
Tap the circle next to a chore to mark it done. It turns into a check at once, and the chore is saved and synced like a chore ticked in the app, reward included.
Some chores can't be ticked from the widget, and show why instead of a circle:
- A camera: the chore needs a photo, which you take in the app.
- A clock: the chore has a time window, and it hasn't opened yet or has closed.
- A lock: the chore is someone else's, or needs a time chosen in the app.
Tap the chore's name to open it in Chore Boss. To untick a chore, open it in the app.
Ask Siri (iPhone)
Say:
- "What chores are left in Chore Boss" or "What chores does Mia have today in Chore Boss".
- "Mark a chore done in Chore Boss", "I finished a chore in Chore Boss" or "Mark Make the bed done in Chore Boss".
- "What's my balance in Chore Boss" or "How much has Mia earned in Chore Boss".
- "How is everyone doing in Chore Boss".
- "Show Mia's chores in Chore Boss" or "Show my chores in Chore Boss".
- "Ask Chore Boss", to open the assistant.
To mark a chore done, Siri asks who it's for and which chore, if there is more than one, then marks every task of it done and tells you what was earned. If your iPhone is locked, Siri asks you to unlock it first, since the answers are about your family and a chore earns its reward.
You can also find these in the Shortcuts app, under All Shortcuts, in Chore Boss's starter shortcuts.
Shortcuts on the app icon
Touch and hold the Chore Boss icon to see "Today's chores for Mia" for the people with chores today, and tap one to open their day. This works on iPhone and Android, with or without Premium.
Troubleshooting
- "Open Chore Boss once to set up this widget." Open Chore Boss, then look at the widget again.
- "Widgets are part of Chore Boss Premium" Tap Unlock to see Premium.
- "Open Chore Boss to update your chores." Chore Boss hasn't run for a day or more; open it once.
- "Add a profile in Chore Boss first." Add your family in Chore Boss.
- A chore someone else ticked doesn't show as done yet. Their phone has to sync first; open Chore Boss to update it.
- Siri says "Still saving. Open Chore Boss to check it." Open Chore Boss: it finishes saving the chore.
- Siri says "Siri shortcuts are part of Chore Boss Premium." Siri needs Premium, like the widgets.
