How to set up your home when you first open Chore Boss

The first time you open Chore Boss, you choose how to get started:

• New Home creates a new home for your family.
• Sign In opens the home you already have.
• Join a Home connects you to a home someone has invited you to.

When you tap New Home, you can set up your home in two ways. Either way, you can change anything later.

Chat with the Assistant

Tell the Assistant about your family, and it adds your members and suggests chores that fit their ages.

1. Tap New Home.
2. Tap Chat with the Assistant.
3. Sign in. The Assistant opens once your household is ready.
4. Tell it who lives with you and how old the kids are, or tap a suggestion like We have two kids, 7 and 11.
5. Review each change it suggests, then tap Confirm to save it.

Good to know:

• The setup chat is free, but you need to sign in.
• On the free plan, the setup chat ends after a limited number of messages. With premium, this limit does not apply.
• The free plan's limits still apply, so it cannot add more than 5 chores, or custom rooms, tasks or rewards, unless you have premium.
• You can also start the setup chat from the Add Members step by tapping Prefer to chat? Set up with the Assistant.

Set it up myself

1. Tap New Home.
2. Tap Set it up myself.
3. On Add Members, add everyone who will do chores. Adding a birth year helps Chore Boss suggest chores that suit each person's age.
4. On Set Up Your Chores, choose:
   • Set Up Automatically to let Smart Setup create chores for you.
   • I'll Do It Myself to add chores one by one.
5. On Add Chores, review your chores, or tap Add Chore to add more.
6. On Set Preferences, set up your home.
7. Tap Sign In to keep your data safe and in sync across devices, or tap Continue As Guest.

If you skip sign-in, your chores stay on this phone only. You can sign in later from the Settings tab.

Smart Setup

Smart Setup creates age-appropriate chores based on your family members.

1. On Set Up Your Chores, tap Set Up Automatically.
2. On Which areas need chores?, tap the rooms and spaces in your home. For Bedrooms, Bathrooms and Vehicles, set how many you have.
3. Tap Generate Chores.
4. Review the new chores on the next step and change anything you like.

Good to know:

• On the free plan, you can pick up to 5 areas.
• If you haven't added members yet, you can still continue, and the chores are created without anyone assigned.
• If your members have no birth year, Chore Boss asks Are there kids? Tap Add Ages for better suggestions, or Continue Without Ages to see all chores.

Start over

If your home already has chores when you reach Smart Setup, you see Chores Already Created.

• Tap Continue to keep your chores.
• Tap Start Fresh to delete all existing chores and set up new ones.

Start Fresh deletes every chore in the home and its assignments, and it cannot be undone.

After setup

The setup chat and Smart Setup are only offered while you create a new home. After that, you can:

• Tap + and choose Add Chore, Add Task or Add Member.
• Ask the Assistant to add chores for you, which needs premium.

Troubleshooting

• "Area Limit Reached" The free plan lets you pick up to 5 areas in Smart Setup. Upgrade to premium for more, or add more chores yourself later.
• "That's the end of the free setup chat. Upgrade to Premium to keep chatting with the Assistant." You've used all the messages of the free setup chat. You can keep setting up your home yourself with the + button.
• "This is taking longer than usual. Check your connection, or skip and set up your household yourself." Check your internet connection and wait, or tap Skip to set up your home yourself.
