# How to log a dose

Open your child, tap Medication on the Activities tab, choose a medication, check the dose, date and time, then tap Save. You don't need an account to log doses.

Log every dose you give so everyone caring for your child can see what was given and when.
You don't need an account to log doses.

## Log a dose

1. Open your child and tap **Medication** in the bar at the bottom of the **Activities** tab.
If you don't see it, tap **More**.
2. Tap **Choose medication** and pick one.
**Your medications** lists the ones saved on your account, and **Suggested** lists common ones.
You can also search by brand or active ingredient.
3. Check the **Dose**.
If you saved a default amount for this medication, it's filled in for you.
Change it to the amount you gave.
4. Check the date and time.
They start at now, so change them if you gave the dose earlier.
5. Add a **Note** if you like, for example "spat some out".
6. Tap **Save**.

Under the medication you may see chips such as **Every 6 h** or the ages it's meant for.
They come from the medication's details and are for your information only.
Always follow the label and your pediatrician's advice.

## See when the next-dose window opens

After you save, the **Next-dose window** card on your child's screen shows when the suggested window for the next dose opens.
If this is the final dose, for example the last dose of an antibiotic course, turn on **Last dose** before you tap **Save**, and no countdown starts for that medication.
See [How to see when the next-dose window opens](https://www.kidplay.tech/help/how-to-see-when-the-next-dose-window-opens).

## Scan the barcode

Instead of searching, tap **Scan barcode** next to the medication and point the camera at the barcode on the box.
If Fever Whiz knows the product, it's selected for you.
You need to be signed in to scan.

## Add your own medication

If you can't find a medication, add it:

1. Tap **Choose medication**, then tap **Add Medication**.
2. Enter the **Name**.
This is the only required field.
3. Fill in anything else you know, such as **Active Ingredient**, **Form**, **Concentration (mg)**, **Interval (hours)** or **Take With Food**.
4. Tap **Save**.

The medication is saved to your account and appears under **Your medications** next time.

## Log the same dose for more than one person

If you care for more than one person, turn on **With other family members?** and pick the others.
The same medication and dose is logged for each person you pick.
If their doses are different, log each person separately.

## Change or remove the medication on a dose

On the dose form, tap the medication to pick a different one.
Tap the pencil icon next to it to change its details, or the x icon to remove it.

## Troubleshooting

- **"Please choose a medication first.":** Tap **Choose medication** and pick one before saving.
- **"We don't recognize that barcode yet. Choose the medication manually.":** The product isn't in our list yet.
Search for it, or add it with **Add Medication**.
- **"No matches. Tap below to add it.":** Try the brand name or the active ingredient, or add it with **Add Medication**.
- **Fever Whiz asks me to sign in when I tap Scan barcode:** Scanning needs an account.
Sign in, or search for the medication instead.
- **Another caregiver can't see the dose:** They see it once both phones are online and synced.
Check that they're on your team and have access to this child.
